19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour victory, took control to create a third set.

Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
