Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Team Versus Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series facing India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a shock call-up.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad following scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia seek a fix to their top-order woes.

Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
